2 post car lifts 101

Two-post car lift is a special mechanical lifting equipment commonly used by car repair and maintenance units, and is widely used in the repair and maintenance of small cars such as sedans.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Two-Post Car Lift

Two-post car lift has the characteristics of compact structure, beautiful appearance, and easy operation, so that repair personnel do not have to drill into the bottom of the car with narrow space. They only need to use this safe and reliable lifting equipment to lift the car to a certain height, and then they can quickly inspect the parts at the bottom of the car. Two-post car lift can save a lot of ground space while lifting the car in the air, which is convenient for ground operations.

However, in order to save the most materials, the two-post car lift generally removes the bottom plate. Because there is no bottom plate, the torque of the column needs to be offset by the ground, so the foundation requirements are very high. If there is a beam (gantry lift), it is offset by the beam.

Types of two-post car lift

Two-post car lifts are of two types: symmetrical and asymmetrical. The arm lengths of the four arms of a symmetrical lift are roughly equal, so that the center of the car (or center of mass) is in the middle of the column. This symmetrical car lift may be the best choice for daily maintenance of pickup trucks and vans. However, for some symmetrical two-post car lifts with insufficient width between the columns, the inability to open the door after the car is lifted is a big disadvantage.

The columns of an asymmetrical car lift are rotated backward by an angle (about 30°), and the front arm is slightly shorter than the rear arm. When the car is parked in the appropriate position of this asymmetrical lift, the position of the car moves backward a little, so we can easily get in and out of the door. Moreover, the rotating columns of this asymmetrical lift can ensure that the center of gravity of the vehicle is safely positioned between the columns.

Precautions for using a two-post car lift

1. The load distribution during use should comply with the rated load distribution regulations of the support arm specified in the instruction manual.

2. Before lifting the vehicle, the height of each tray should be adjusted to keep the support points on the same horizontal plane.
3. The skirt or beam of the vehicle to be lifted must be placed in the center of the pallet, and the center of gravity of the vehicle should be located at the center of the support surface as much as possible.
4. After the pallet is in place, the lift can be started only after the arm is positioned reliably.
5. When the car lift is raised to 10cm from the ground, check and confirm that the car lift is safe and reliable. After the lift is operating normally, start lifting to the required working height. During the lifting process, no one is allowed to enter under the vehicle.
6. Note that the power supply cannot be connected in reverse, otherwise the limit switch will not work.
7. Lubricating oil should be added regularly to ensure that the screw nut is fully lubricated to prevent early wear.
8. When working frequently in muddy, sandy and sewage environments, a protective cover should be added to the screw nut pair.
9. It is strictly forbidden to place repair tools, auto parts or other items under the arm to avoid damage to the lift.
10. The lift circuit shall not be changed by yourself to avoid failure, danger and accidental loss.
